The story of the Soap with the Stag brand in cinemas! Come to the premiere of Kingdom of Soap Bubbles.

On Thursday, January 29, at 7:30 p.m., the Dlabačov cinema will host the premiere of the documentary film presented at the Ji.hlava IDFF, Kingdom of Soap Bubbles.

The film tells the story of the Soap with the Stag brand and its founders, the Schicht family of entrepreneurs, whose name was as well known in interwar Czechoslovakia as Škoda, Baťa, Kolben, or Daněk. The documentary shows the Schicht family's rapid rise from their modest beginnings in the basement of a village house to the construction of a factory in Ústí nad Labem and the co-founding of the multinational giant Unilever, whose products surround us to this day. The history of a family business that went through a very turbulent period during two world wars and the post-war expulsion of the German population is brought back to life in the stories of the Schicht descendants, who now live scattered around the world and are trying to rediscover their roots.

The screening of the film about the rise and fall of the Schicht family will be accompanied by a discussion with the film's protagonists. The filmmakers – director Taťána Marková and producer Jarmila Poláková – will also be present.

Guests will be offered a welcome drink, and the evening will be hosted by Martin Krsek, a historian and expert on the Schicht Empire, director of the Historical Museum of the City of Ústí nad Labem, who is also one of the protagonists of the film and co-author of the screenplay.

About the director:

Taťána Marková is the director of three documentaries produced by Film & Sociologie – Revolution Girls (2009, One World, AFO, Doc Europe III Portugal, shown on Czech Television), What to Tell the Kids? (2014, Febiofest Bratislava, shown on HBO ČR) and Libussa Unbound (2019, 8th Indian Cine Film Festival and 5th Indian World Festival Honorable Jury Mentions, shown on Czech Television). The theme of divided family is close to her heart – as World War II placed the Schichts on opposite sides of the front line, her family was divided by the Iron Curtain.
